4 – Yellowjackets

Yellowjackets follows the story of high school girls soccer team that survives a plane crash in Ontario. In the series, we follow the girls as they break apart in the wilderness, but we also see a second timeline with a few of the girls as adults who survived the wild and each other. The series was released in November 2021 and is currently airing on Showtime.

5 – Pretty Smart

A new Netflix original comedy sitcom that debuted in October 2021, Pretty Smart is one of this year’s underrated shows. Pretty Smart is about two sisters and begins when Chelsea, the book-smart intelligent sister has to move in with her more casual, carefree sister (and her sister’s three roommates). Though the comedy has mixed reviews, it has high audience ratings and is praised by fans of young, modern sitcoms. It’s currently available to stream on Netflix.

6 – Cruel Summer

Released in Spring 2021, Cruel Summer is a teen thriller drama that takes place on the same day in three different summers in the mid-1990s. When a popular girl goes missing, a more reserved, nerdy girl seems to take her place. When the missing girl is then located, people rush to take sides as they try to determine what really happened between the two girls. Though Cruel Summer didn’t get as much attention as it should have, we’re glad it was renewed by Freeform. You can stream the first season on Freeform and Hulu.

7 – The Chair

The Chair is a comedy-drama series starring Sandra Oh that came to Netflix in August 2021. At a prestigious, fictional university in New England, Professor Ji-Yoon Kim is the first woman of color to become the Chair of the English department and has to meet the “dizzying demands and high expectations” of the role. It’s been described as a near-perfect show and has been celebrated by audiences. The first season is available to stream on Netflix.
