When does 911 season 5 return? (911 season 5 release date update)

9-1-1: Lone Star season 3 might be kicking off its new season on FOX this January, but don’t expect 9-1-1 season 5 to join it this month.

While FOX’s midseason schedule is kicking off on Jan. 3 with the season 3 premiere of 9-1-1: Lone Star, 9-1-1 is taking an extended break and will not be coming back to the network’s schedule this month.

Instead, Lone Star will be shifting into the opening hour of the night as the lead into FOX’s new series The Cleaning Lady which will air at 9/8c and take over the timeslot held by The Big Leap during the fall schedule.

Why is 911 not back on FOX?

It’s not exactly clear why 9-1-1 season 5 hasn’t returned to FOX’s lineup, especially considering January brings with it the return of 9-1-1: Lone Star with the season 3 premiere on Jan. 3. What seems to have happened is FOX simply did not have enough spaces on its schedule for 9-1-1 to fix the series back into its schedule in needing to make room for some of its new and returning midseason offerings.

Although 9-1-1 season 5 will not be returning with new episodes this January, FOX has confirmed new episodes will begin airing once again in March 2022.

At this time, no official return date has been confirmed by the network but should the series remain on Monday nights we could see season 5 resume as early as Monday, March 7.

Interestingly, the show’s IMDB page currently lists the season 5 midseason premiere as airing on Monday, March 21 so it’s possible we could have to wait until late March for the next new episode. However, it’s also possible that date is simply a placeholder and that season 5 could return to FOX’s lineup sooner.
