When you star on a major show like Friends, fans are quick to watch your every move and try to recreate your outfits and hairstyles. This was certainly the case for Courteney Cox and Jennifer Aniston, who became fashion icons in the 1990s and 2000s. People still dress up as their characters, Monica Geller and Rachel Green, for Halloween, and many of their looks are unforgettable.

With that said, that doesn’t mean they haven’t made their fair share of fashion mistakes over the years. For Cox, there is one hairstyle that she’s still embarrassed about today, and fans of the Scream movie franchise might know exactly the one I’m talking about.

Horror fans will know Cox has starred in every Scream movie since the first premiered in 1996, playing the role of reporter/author Gale Weathers. Though she donned pretty awesome outfits and hairstyles throughout most of the films, she totally missed in Scream 3, sporting very, very, very short bangs. Check them out in the video below.

Courteney Cox’s Scream 3 bangs

As reported by People Magazine, Cox recently appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show with ex-husband David Arquette and Neve Campbell to promote their new movie Scream (a.k.a. Scream 5), where they discussed those terrible bangs. On the subject of Gale Weathers’ many fashion choices, Cox revealed that she would try to “come up with a different look for her that was just over the top gross, or ugly or too much.”

Unsurprisingly, Campbell brought up the Scream 3 bangs, to which Cox responded: “Oh that was the worst. I forgot about that. There was nothing worse. That was a big lesson in life because that will forever be on film.”

Apparently, the bangs were not real but instead clip-ons, and Arquette might be the one to blame for them! As People Magazine recalls, the Cougar Town actor admitted in 2019 that he suggested the look, saying he takes “full responsibility.”

Looking back all of Cox’s memorable looks, the Scream 3 bangs don’t come to mind first, but we totally get why she’s still embarrassed about the hairstyle. You can catch the actress in the new Scream movie, only in theaters this Friday, Jan. 14.
