Same as you. Same as you. I wanted to see them eat someone in the Yellowjackets finale, same as you.

Buttttt that didn’t happen. And it’s okay. If you were reeeeeally hoping that the girls were going to finally go all fine young cannibals in the finale, I promise you: it’s okay. Because Yellowjackets just dropped a treasure trove of loose ends and bombshell plot twists that will certainly have us all talking right up until the Season 2 premiere.

Warning: Full spoilers for the Yellowjackets finale follow.

The Yellowjackets finale kicked off with the 2021 crew disposing of a body and the wilderness girls facing down a m*****f****** bear. Well, mostly just Lottie. We heard no fewer than six amazing tunes from the ’90s at the reunion. The adult Yellowjackets did tequila shots and had to endure a slideshow of their dead classmates. The teen Yellowjackets prepared a feast.

Then, as the episode entered its final ten minutes, all hell broke loose. We found out how Jackie died. (Brrrr!) We learned about a bonkers secret society that wears comfy lilac jumpsuits and tiny pendants of the mysterious forest symbol. (We needYellowjackets merch, like, yesterday, Showtime.) We got a glimpse of the dark recesses of Taissa’s disturbed mind. (Poor Biscuit!) And, crucially, we found out that supernatural forces at play are really and truly at play here. (Hello, Mr. Ghost Pilot!!!)

Sure, there were a few answers sprinkled into the mix, but every answer just raised more tantalizing questions: Where is Javi? Who killed Travis? Will there be ghosts? What is going to happen with Shauna’s baby?!

Same as you, I’ve reached a point of no return with this show and vow to go wherever its black magic leads me. So, I’ll be obsessing over the following questions from now until Yellowjackets Season 2 premieres. Won’t you join me?

Let’s dissect all the questions and answers from the Yellowjackets finale

Who killed Travis?

Was it Lottie? Most signs point to Lottie here, right? The context in the voice mail from Nat’s sponsor Suzie is leading us to believe that Lottie was the one who closed out Travis’s bank account after he was murdered. Candles arranged in the shape of the forest symbol were also found at his site of death, giving us serious Antler Queen vibes.

We’re only at the four month mark in the wilderness flashbacks at this point, but, if Lottie survives to become an adult, it seems like she must have accrued some serious AQ karma during the remaining fifteen months prior to rescue. Also, she was bonkers rich before the crash, and people with money, power, and charisma (check check check for Lottie), tend to accrue followers.

Which brings us to….

WTF is that secret symbol society that kidnapped Nat?

Did. Not. See. This. Coming.  I guess this is supposed to be Yellowjackets‘ version of the “Others” from LOST? It sure feels that way. The show seems to be suggesting that Lottie Matthews is the de facto leader of the nebulous cult that appeared to kidnap Nat in the final minutes of the episode. But, if the kidnappers are taking orders from Lottie, what is she trying to do? And why would she want Travis dead but Nat alive?

What was Nat right about?

When Nat and Misty cased Travis’s house, Misty found a note. Using the Dude’s shading method, Misty finds that the last thing he wrote was “Tell Nat she was right.” What was she right about? Given what we currently know, it seems possible that Nat had some sort of misgivings about letting Lottie return to society alive.

However, if Travis wrote that note with the intention of Lottie eventually handing it over to Nat in person, then it could be something else entirely. Nat could have been right about so many things, but given the cryptic brevity of the message, I’m willing to bet he’s referring to something that happened in the wilderness and not something from present day.

Is Jessica Roberts dead?

Ah, Jessica. Smoking is bad! Smoking cigarettes that were in your kidnapper’s possession for an extended period of time? Way worse! This chick saw Misty pump a box of Godivas full of fentanyl and seriously didn’t think that she would do the same to her? Pssshht. Jessica is smarter than that. Misty even had her gloves on when she retrieved the crumpled pack from the garbage. Open your eyes, girl!

But, even when we’ve seen dead bodies on this show, they’re not truly dead. (Whaddup, Van!) So it’s likely that Jessica is still alive… even though she did smoke almost an entire laced stogie. If she is, indeed, still alive, what is she going to do with all her dirt on Misty?

Where is Javi?

Last we saw Javi, a husky, disembodied voice spoke through Shauna and told him to “RUN” as the tripping girls stalked the forest. (In retrospect, this voice sounded eerily like the voice of the Ghost Pilot, but we’ll get to him shortly.) Also, prior to his disappearance, Javi was lying in a coffin-shaped knot of roots near the sacrificial tree stump, the very stump that we saw from the spooky ceremony in the premiere.

Many things could’ve happened to Javi, but there are certainly sinister forces in the woods beyond just the rapidly fraying degradation of societal norms. It’s very possible that something took Javi. Has he entered the ghost world, like Jackie? Or is he alive and well, part of Lottie’s Heaven’s Gate wannabes? I guess he could still be Adam, but since the entire adult Yellowjackets gang has now seen Adam’s body and no one made a connection to Javi, signs point to no on this very popular theory.

Who tf was Adam?

They didn’t put those gnarly tattoos on Adam’s back for nothing. Reddit citizen detectives have noted that the actor, Peter Gadiot, does not have those tattoos in real life, so they were chosen and showcased for a reason. Adam might be dead and carved up like a Thanksgiving turkey, but someone is going to connect Shauna to his disappearance, and soon.

Will there be ghosties?

And, more importantly, do we get to keep the fabulous Ella Purnell, aka: Jackie? Signs point to yes.

The sudden appearance of the mystery man from the credit sequence was shocking and spooky as hell. Did the the pilot haunt anyone else’s dreams after they watched the Yellowjackets finale? *raises hand* Just me? M’kay.

As Jackie slips into the underworld, she imagines her friends rallying around her with love and hot chocolate. At first, this scene seems like a weird ritualistic thing and that Shauna is about to off her bestie with a single swipe of her knife. But NOPE. She ded. She enjoyed a peaceful and anticlimactic death, her starving body freezing to death in the snow. And the pilot is there, just offscreen, to greet her.

There’s no way that the Yellowjackets team introduced the concept of sinister ghosts in the wilderness just to have it be a tease. Like those peeps from the Iron Islands love to say on Game of Thrones, “what is dead may never die.” Chances are, we’ll be finding out a lot more about the history of that symbol, the cabin, and the surrounding creepy woodlands. Maybe we’ll even get a ghost version of Laura Lee! Also, there’s now a very real possibility that Jackie might be able to enact some Mean Girl revenge on her teammates, ghostie style.

What’s going to happen to Shauna’s baby?!?!

Please don’t let them eat it. Please don’t let them eat it. Please don’t let them eat it.

Seriously, though: Please don’t let them eat it. Otherwise, all bets are off with that baby. Oh, wait. Also, please don’t let Adam have been Shauna’s wilderness baby. There are multiple options as to what’s going to happen with that little fetus, and none of them look so great on the happy ending front. Shauna’s well into her second trimester in the Yellowjackets finale and time is passing only a few months at a time, so we probably have awhile longer to contemplate this question. If time continues to pass as it has been on the show, we might not even see her give birth until season 3. Perhaps it’ll be the cliffhanger for Yellowjackets Season 2?

Will Taissa help champion filibuster reform in the Senate?

Just kidding. But seriously, the idea of Taissa Turner having real power in the Senate is kind of chilling. Yellowjackets Season 2 certainly has an opportunity to play with horrifying power dynamics of a different breed, and we’re betting they’re going to go there.

Honestly, even with the reveal of her horrifying sacrificial alter and that creepy af smile, Taissa still doesn’t crack the top 10 most horrifying U.S. Senators. But still. Things are gonna get weird.

Now, let the darkness set us free. (Until Yellowjackets Season 2 premieres.)
