During the ViacomCBS Investor Day event, SEAL Team fans were shocked to learn that a movie is in the works. What does this mean for the TV series?

Paramount+ is looking to develop a SEAL Team movie. That was the news President and CEO of CBS and CCO for news and sports at Paramount+ George Cheeks announced during the ViacomCBS Investor Day event on Tuesday, Feb. 15.

The news didn’t come with many details. According to TVLine, the series will expand on the storytelling universe of the series. David Boreanaz, EP Christopher Chulack, and showrunner Spencer Hadnut are all involved in the creation of the standalone movie.

We have to question what this means for the TV series, which was just recently renewed for a sixth season. The new season will only have 10 episodes and will air exclusively on Paramount+.

What happens to the SEAL Team series with the movie?

There are some details from the release to note. The first is that this is going to be a standalone movie. It suggests that while it is in the world already created by the series, it is not going to affect the storyline for the TV series in any way.

We could see the series follow a different set of SEALs. After all, there are multiple teams, and this would offer us the chance to see one of the Bravo Team members who hasn’t stuck around or been seen for a while, like Thirty Mike. It could also allow more development for one of the fallen SEALs, going into a story before the series began, such as Nate Massey played by Daniel Gillies.

It’s not a sign that there’s a problem with the TV series or that the show is at risk of coming to an end. This news about the movie suggests that SEAL Team‘s move to Paramount+ has been a positive thing and now there’s a chance to grow the franchise.
