No Exit movie review: New Hulu film is just another lackluster thriller

In 20th Century Studios' "No Exit", exclusively on Hulu, a young woman en route to a family emergency becomes stranded by a blizzard and forced to find shelter at a highway rest area with a group of strangers. When she stumbles across an abducted girl in a van in the parking lot, it sets her on a terrifying life-or-death struggle to discover who among them is the kidnapper. Hulu can be so hit and miss with their original content, but honestly, they have some great ones that recently include Sex Appeal and Vacation Friends. So today, I let you know if the latest Hulu release, No Exit, is worth your time this weekend or not.

The film kicks off with audiences meeting Darby (Havana Rose Liu), who struggles to break out of a mental institute to visit her sick mom. Darby runs into a snowstorm after breaking out and is stuck at a lodge until the storm passes. As she’s waiting at the lodge with a group of other people, she steps outside to get service for her phone and finds a little girl tied up in a van.

No Exit on Hulu is an easy skip

The film feels so anticlimactic from the go. They have this sense of urgency only to be so grounded for so long. However, they show their hands early with whose van it is and you wonder why they only had one or two tricks up their sleeves. The highlight of the entire film is ONE twist, yes only one. This twist stands out and makes audiences feel like the movie is about to finally get exciting.

I was like, here we go, the movie has picked up the pace and we are onto something…and then, boomNo Exit reminds us awfully fast that it’s not that good. Stupid moments ruin bad films trying to be good so often it makes my head hurt. I audibly said “OH MY GOD” and almost wanted to turn off the movie. I’m all for movies taking liberties, but this honestly tried my patience one too many times.

I find it wild that the guys who wrote Ant-Man and the Wasp are the same people who presented this film. I feel like they had an interesting premise that might have gotten some steam, but they would’ve had to fine-tune the script, find better actors, and then maybe they would have had a watchable film.

No Exit is an easy skip for me, unless you are the type of person that enjoys bad movies, but even then, the movie isn’t even bad enough to be funny bad and that makes it even sadder.

No Exit drops on Hulu on Feb. 28, 2022.
