Euphoria, the hit HBO teen drama, becomes the talk of the Internet every time an episode drops. Season 2 was no different as the stakes for Rue were raised and she spiraled out of control. But, it’s not just the drama that keeps the audience hooked. The aesthetic, cinematography, and the music does as well.

In terms of the latter, many of the needle drops in the second season had viewers bouncing along and head bobbing or swaying as the scenes escalated or calmed. Some of the most standout moments, however, were due to show composer, Labrinth, and his genius, including “Understand Me,” a song that had fans rushing to look up the lyrics and listen to it again.

Last season, that moment belonged to Zendaya as she closed out Euphoria‘s freshman run with “All For Us.” The season ended with Rue relapsing and it was depicted through this musical number complete with choreography and a fear inducing image of a possible overdose for the young teen.

Thankfully, Rue didn’t overdose, which was revealed to viewers in part 1 of the special episodes released in the interim between season 1 and 2 of the series. But, while “All For Us” was meant to be a testament to a backslide for Rue, the song Zendaya sang in Euphoria season 2 was hopeful and ushered in a lighter path for her character.

What song does Zendaya sing in Euphoria season 2?

In the season 2 finale, “All My Life My Heart Has Yearned for a Thing I Cannot Name,” the season doesn’t end with a musical dance number but it does include Zendaya’s portion of “I’m Tired.”

We first heard the song in episode 4, “You Who Cannot See, Think of Those Who Can,” when Rue’s drug use pushes her into a spiritual moment where she’s embraced both by Labrinth and her father. The lyrics lament how weary she is existing as she has without her dad and wishing she were no longer a part of the world.

In episode 5, “Stand Still Like the Hummingbird,” we briefly heard Zendaya sing a piece of “I’m Tired” as the morphine Laurie injects into her veins takes effect. But it isn’t until the finale that we get to hear more of her piece of the song. The wait, however, is worth it as Zendaya’s voice is beautiful, transforming the mournful iteration we heard previously into a hopeful one.

It’s fitting considering Rue is in a better place by the end of the season. She’s made her apologies, knows she has more to make, and is thankful for Lexi’s play which has allowed her to see her life from a different perspective. Considering where Rue was at the end of the first season and where life, her decisions, and the choices her loved ones made on her behalf have taken her in season 2, Zendaya’s piece of “I’m Tired” brings us and Rue full circle.

Rue has repeatedly stated that she doesn’t want to be here anymore, but through Zendaya’s voice singing, “Hey, Lord, you know I’m trying. It’s all I got. Is it enough? Hey, Lord, I wanna stay,” we know that Rue is fighting to do better for herself and find a way forward without drug dependency.
