While The Winchesters certainly are important, it’s all about Jody and Donna as we look at the best characters in Supernatural.

To celebrate Women’s History Month, we’re taking a look at some of the best female characters on various shows. Supernatural had some great female characters over the years. Most of them faced the same disappointing fate, though. They died.

That wasn’t the case for Jody and Donna. There were moments that we feared the worst for them, especially when The CW decided not to go ahead with the Wayward Sisters spin-off, but in the end, the two characters survived.

Sure, they are two individual people, but they really do work well as a duo. Here’s what makes them the joint best female characters on the series.

Why Jody and Donna are the ultimate characters on Supernatural

We’re introduced to the two characters individually. They even live in different states. However, they both immediately prove one thing: they are excellent allies for the Winchesters.

No, it doesn’t seem so at first. It takes some time for both Jody and Donna to accept the world of monsters and creatures. Once they do, they are all in. They will do whatever it takes to keep the people of their towns and beyond safe from what goes bump in the night. And I love that they get the choice to do this. If they didn’t want to, the Winchesters would have left them to their own lives, but they will always put the innocents first.

However, it’s not this that makes them stand out. We’ve seen a lot of female characters choose to put the innocent, unsuspecting people first.

Jody and Donna

went a step further.

They helped to protect young girls without families. It started with Alex and Claire. Then we saw Patience and Kaia join. Jody and Donna wanted to make sure these young girls had a place they could call home. They became mothering figures in their lives, playing to their strengths when it came to hunting and simply encouraging them to be the best they can be.

We also saw the two women—especially Jody—put Sam and Dean in their place a few times. There’s no doubt that these were the types of women both Winchester brothers could have done with growing up.
