Bob’s Burgers: ICYM Video Killed the Gene-io Star
It feels like season 12 of Bob’s Burgers has just begun. However, we have so much left to look forward to when it comes to the Belchers. Aside from the movie, there’s the rest of season 12 left to get excited for. Then the series has been renewed for at least one more season on Fox. Obviously, it’s a huge deal for us as fans of the show and it’s nice to see Bob’s Burgers finally get its due.
However, with the show now into season 12, it can be difficult to try and keep up. In particular, this season has been a whirlwind, especially with the Olympics going on. Despite that, Hidden Remote is here to be your guide on what you missed.
Basically, this is going to be a rundown of the episode and some general thought so let’s get into season 12’s “Video Killed the Gene-io Star.” Of course, there will be spoilers from this point on if you haven’t watched.
Here’s what you missed on season 12, episode 14 of Bob’s Burgers.
The episode begins with Tina and Louise getting notes in their lockers before finding out that the notes are from Courtney. She explains that she and her father are going to shoot a music video for her song at the school but she wants Gene to be in it so she decides to bribe Tina and Louise with candy.
Tina and Louise immediately agree and Courtney agrees to meet with them at the end of the school day. Tina and Louise try to convince Gene during school but are unsuccessful. Gene explains to his sisters that the reason he doesn’t want to participate is that the song is not good. He’s not even willing to put his name on the song because it’s so bad to him.
Courtney says that if Gene won’t be in the video, she’ll cancel it so he has to say yes. On the morning of the shoot, the Belcher kids go to Courtney’s house and Gene is pulled away by Courtney’s dad but can’t make himself sing well. After that, Gene is reunited with everyone else for costumes and once again, continues to be in a sour mood.
After hearing the song, the other Belcher siblings realize how bad the song truly is but they all decide to shoot the video still. Gene tries to act interested, but can’t make himself get excited and eventually, has an epiphany when they’re shooting the final scene together and tells Courtney how terrible everything is from the song to the video.
Tina eventually explains to Gene that even though he might not like the video or the song, Courtney is his friend so he should get over it because it makes her happy. The episode ends with Gene finding Courtney and apologizing for hurting her and doing the video after all.
If you missed “Video Killed the Gene-io Star,” the episode was surprisingly delightful. We really got to see a different side to both Gene and Courtney. It was nice to see Gene humble himself and for us to see him actually work with Courtney. While Courtney can be annoying at times, it does seem like she ends up getting treated unfairly at times.
Overall though, this episode was a lot of fun as it featured a solid plot with Gene and his siblings along with Bob, Linda, and Teddy at the restaurant. Then there were a few musical moments and even some dance sequences. As far as Gene and Courtney’s episodes go, this has to be one of the best.
Bob’s Burgers airs Sundays on Fox at 9/8c.
