Sir Anthony Hopkins. His name is one of the most recognizable in the industry in America and Britain. In fact, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth in 1993 for his services to the arts. That’s why he’s known as Sir Anthony Hopkins.

And he certainly deserves the title! The 84-year-old Welsh actor has contributed many films over the years. He got his big break in 1968 for The Lion in the Winter. Some of his notable work includes Bram Stroker’s Dracula, Hannibal, and Thor.

Hopkins has received a total of four Best Actor Oscar nominations and two Best Supporting Actor nominations. He’s been recognized for his work by many other award shows. But how many has he won from the Academy Awards?

Anthony Hopkins Oscar wins

Hopkins has taken home two Oscars. The first was in 1992 for his film The Silence of the Lambs. The psychological horror movie focuses on FBI training academy student Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) who interviews Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Hopkins). He’s a brilliant psychiatrist who is in prison for murder and cannibalism. Not my type of genre, but Hopkins did an amazing job!

He also won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in The Father just last year. He became the oldest person to win an Oscar at 83 years old. The Father is a film that focuses on aging man Anthony (Hopkins) who has dementia. He refuses assistance from his daughter, tries to make sense of his changing circumstances, and begins to doubt his loved ones. It’s a story that many people can connect with. Most either have someone they love or know someone whose loved one has dementia.

Though he hasn’t been nominated for any awards this year, Hopkins will be at the awards show to present an award. Don’t miss the Oscars this Sunday, March 27 at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC.
