Is baby Jack on This is Us blind?

The story of NBC hit-show This is Us is almost coming to an end. The sixth and final season continues to explore the challenges and curveballs thrown at the Pearsons. But what else is new?

The series is known for addressing a multitude of life challenges head on. They’re not afraid to explore and represent them. These can be subjects not often talked about, let alone see on television.

This is Us season 6 is tying up the loose ends and working towards the conclusion of this story. We’re leading up to how things will play out for Randall, Kevin, and Kate. And one of the most important parts of Kate’s story is her son, Jack Damon.

Is baby Jack on This is Us blind?

There are three ways to answer this question. First, let’s talk about the character. Yes, Jack Jr., Kate and Toby’s son, is blind. He was born 12 weeks premature and diagnosed with retinopathy of prematurity.

The babies who played Jack in This is Us season 4 are not visually impaired. Twins Weldon and Poppy Barnes took on the role in several scenes.

Finally, This is Us season 6 introduced us to an absolutely adorable toddler who plays baby Jack. Johnny Kincaid made his TV debut in the season premiere. His mother runs his Instagram account and shared the child actor has albinism, which comes with low vision and an eye condition called nystagmus. In the Instagram post she said:

"Although his character has a different visual impairment, we are SO thrilled for the representation and inclusion of the blind and low vision community in a television show that does so well at showing all the nuances of life with SUCH a huge reach!"

This little boy is so great on screen. Definitely a professional actor! You can tell he’s comfortable on camera and with his co-stars Chrissy Metz and Chris Sullivan. This is Us has always been great about telling everyday stories. It’s really refreshing to see that they searched for a toddler who could play the character of Jack realistically. It’s definitely the kind of representation we need to see more of in the industry.
