Inside Matthew Perry’s rumored feud with Friends cast: He didn’t feel ‘supported’ by them
By now, most fans of the beloved sitcom Friends have heard the rumors that star Matthew Perry has beef with at least some — if not all — of the main cast members. The 52-year-old actor has a book coming out later this year, in which he’s set to open up about his time on the NBC show, his struggles with addiction, and more. He’s stated that he thought “it was time people heard from me,” and now reports are coming out with details on what exactly he might be saying.
So what is this rumored feud about, and why is everything suddenly coming out now? Friends has been off the air since 2004, so it might feel strange that Perry’s alleged gripes are now coming to life. Well, according to OK! Magazine, Perry’s experience at the Friends reunion in 2021 left a sour taste in his mouth.
Why is Matthew Perry allegedly mad at his Friends co-stars?
Reportedly, the fact that Perry was used as “the butt of jokes” in the media left him upset, and he allegedly did not receive the support he needed from his Friends co-stars. As you might remember, fans were all talking last year about the actor’s appearance at the reunion and in promotional videos, with many concerned for his health. This led to the director of Friends: The Reunion stepping in to make sure everyone knew the actor was fine.
“He was great. People can sometimes just be unkind. I wish they weren’t,” Ben Winston said about Perry. “I loved working with him. He’s a brilliantly funny man and I thought he had some great one-liners in the show. I felt just happy and lucky to be in his presence and directing him on something like this.”
A source now tells OK! Magazine: “[Perry] didn’t feel like any of them supported him, and it was a bitter reminder of how much he suffered back when they were shooting the show.”
Though the cast looked as close as ever during the reunion, an insider says that’s far from reality. “They weren’t as close as people think,” a source claims. “Their characters were so tight, but the reality is there was a lot of tension and jealousy.”
On top of Perry allegedly not feeling like he had support from his co-stars during Friends and during the reunion, we’ve also heard the rumor that Perry and Matt LeBlanc aren’t on good terms because of what happened once Friends wrapped. Reportedly, Perry was angry over LeBlanc’s decision to star in the Friends spin-off, Joey.
Right now, all of the insider information we’re hearing are just rumors. We’d feel so terrible if Perry felt this bad about his Friends co-stars, but until his memoir hits bookshelves, we must take these reports with a grain of salt. Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing releases on Nov. 1, 2022. Check it out and pre-order it right here.
