Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is now playing in theaters, but it didn’t receive a warm welcome from critics. And from what we’ve seen so far, audiences aren’t being too kind about the movie, either. On the fence about watching The Secrets of Dumbledore, especially because it’s in theaters only? We get it! We’re here to help by putting together the most popular comments and feedback about the movie to help you make up your mind about it.

Let’s begin with some facts, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore follows Professor Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) trying to stop Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) from taking over the wizarding world. Dumbledore knows he can’t do this alone, so he enlists the help of his closest and most trusted friends, including Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). The movie is rated PG-13 and has a runtime of approximately two hours and 22 minutes.

Should you watch or skip Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore?

If you’re a huge fan of the Harry Potter universe, I do suggest you watch it, even if you have a feeling you won’t enjoy it. Why? Because we’ve come this far! However, If you didn’t even enjoy the first Fantastic Beasts movie, why continue the disappointment? Not to mention, you can be a fan of the Harry Potter franchise, and not the spin-offs. Need more? Here’s what critics and fans are saying.

Critics are commenting that The Secrets of Dumbledore is “unmagical and charmless,” complaining that the movie lacks fun and excitement. While Jude Law does make a fine Dumbledore, there’s not so much the character can do to save the entire movie. Even Mads Mikkelsen (Johnny Depp’s replacement) does a great job, but the story is to blame here.

On the bright side, though the movie does have a 55% rotten rating at Rotten Tomatoes, the positive reviews share that it’s “visually stunning” and praise Jude Law’s portrayal of Dumbledore, commenting that it’s a movie for fans of the books. It’s definitely a mixed bag of reviews!

What’s your final decision? Will you be watching the movie in theaters or wait for the streaming release?
