Friends alum Jennifer Aniston is getting real on her battle with insomnia. The 53-year-old actress recently spoke to People Magazine about her new partnership with the Seize the Night and Day campaign, which aims to help people who can’t manage to maintain a healthy sleep schedule. The celeb looked to her own experiences with insomnia, opening up on how bad it’s really been for all these years.

According to Aniston, she started experiencing insomnia in her 30s, or possibly earlier. At first, she chose not to seek medical help but later realized how important getting sleep was and how detrimental her problem was to her overall health. As she got older, she knew she had to make a change and finally fix it.

Jennifer Aniston talks about dealing with insomnia

The actress explained to People Magazine:

"“I think it started somewhere in my 30s or even earlier, but you just don’t start to notice the effects of a lack of sleep when we’re younger because we’re so invincible. It began as something that I would just accept and then all of a sudden you realize the effects of your lack of sleep and how it affects your day and your work and your mind function and your physique.”"

Aniston recalled how difficult it would be to fall asleep, and the more she thought about it the worse it would get. “And the more I worry about it, the harder it is to fall asleep,” she said. When explaining why she finally made the decision to see a doctor, the Rachel Green actress shared:

"“It became something that I really was struggling with. It used to be the last thing on the list, but you can’t really abide by the three pillars of health — which are diet, exercise and sleep — if you can’t really exercise and you can’t really eat right if you haven’t slept well because your body clock is so completely thrown off.”"

The Murder Mystery star also revealed that she’s struggled with sleepwalking in the past, thinking it must have been a symptom of not getting any sleep. She said: “I have been known to [sleepwalk]. I’ve been woken up by house alarms going off that I’ve set off. And I don’t think I do that anymore — that was when I was super sleep deprived.”

When it comes with how she now deals with insomnia, Aniston “absolutely recommends” going to see a doctor which she eventually decided to do, and she finds bedtime rituals to also be super helpful before trying to fall asleep.
