The promo for The Resident Season 5, Episode 21 made it clear that Cade would need to fight for her life. Did Conrad and the others at Chastain manage to save her life?

Cade had to leave Chastain, but that exit was short-lived. As she drove away with the FBI tailing her for protection, a car came up beside her and open fired. Cade was hit, but Conrad got to her before she passed out from the bullet wounds.

It was a fight for Cade’s life. There were multiple bullet wounds and Cade’s spleen needed to be removed. Billie also noted there was a brain bleed. This one was small, though. It wouldn’t be a repeat of Nic for Conrad.

However, Cade wasn’t out of the woods. As she started reacting to blood she was being given, Conrad realized that Cade said something about blood. She must have been a rare blood type, and that meant only the most urgent surgery to then pack her and wait for replacement blood for her. It was very touch and go.

Did Chastain save Cade in The Resident?

It turns out she had a very rare blood type. It was so rare that there were no banks of it around the country that the doctors of Chastain could find. That is until Devon got in touch with Cade’s father. He had the same blood type and would head from Seattle to Atlanta to save his daughter. It would take some time for him to get there, though.

While they waited, Conrad realized that Cade must have stored some of her own blood knowing that it was rare. She had actually stored some in Atlanta. Cade was smart and would have stores close to wherever she was in case of something like this.

So, she was saved? Sadly not. While the blood was right, it had been frozen too long. The bags must have been damaged as the blood thawed and the blood ended up contaminated.

Cade needed help immediately, and Devon figured out what to do. As a temporary measure, they could use a blood substitute. It would give Cade the time she needed allowing her to have the necessary surgery. And so, everyone got to work, which gave Billie and Conrad time to talk, where we got inside Conrad’s feelings as he struggled to move on from Nic. I’m certainly looking for the finale just to see how the flashbacks will help him do this.

Back to Cade. The surgery was a success, but then she would need to wake up. Conrad was back beside a person who he cared about not knowing if she would be braindead from the amount of blood she lost. Fortunately, Cade did survive!

And just as she woke up, she learned her father was on the way. The look on her face made it very clear she did not want her father to turn up, and when we meet him at the very end of the episode, it’s very clear why. He makes me sick just looking at that smarmy smile.
