NCIS season 19, episode 20 gave us a glimpse into a possible new romance brewing between Jimmy Palmer and Agent Jessica Knight. While transporting a liver to a transplant recipient, they find themselves in danger and it may be connected to the case the rest of the team is working on.

When the team investigates the murder of Navy Reservist John Murphy, they find he recently was fired from his journalist position and he has various slot machine games in his vehicle. While the team is focused on finding out who killed him, Jimmy has been called to drive a liver to a hospital for transplant purposes.

Jessica offers to go with him after we’ve already seen there seems to be some tension between them. Ever since they got back from the wedding, there has been some avoidance when it comes to whether they have feelings for each other or not. Jimmy clearly likes her, but Jessica may be protecting herself.

Their attempt to talk about things is thwarted when a doctor, Scott Long, suggests accompanying them to take the liver to the next hospital. Unfortunately, things go south quickly when they run off the road and gunmen come after them. Long is killed, but Jimmy and Knight survive, and are on the run.

NCIS season 19, episode 20 finds a possible new romance blooming

Eventually, the team discovers their victim was connected to a woman named Ana Brooks, who’s a whistleblower against Paul Newhope, the CEO of Vega Gaming. He has apparently been up to no good when it came to his machines and Ana was set to testify. However, she became ill and needed a liver transplant. The same liver Jimmy and Jessica are transporting.

Long turned out to be the leak about the transplant, having been given money in exchange for his cooperation. Even though Jimmy and Jessica are on their own, they put up a huge fight to survive. However, Jimmy doesn’t want to leave her even when she tells him she’ll distract the gunmen.

Despite being shot in the leg, Jimmy puts up a fight to protect the liver and to find Jessica. Even though it looks like the bad guys win, Jimmy had the foresight to hide the real liver and put a fake animal liver inside the transplant box.

With the liver delivered to Brooks, she was able to recover and will be able to testify against Newhope. As for Jessica and Jimmy, there are hints that a possible romance is brewing. Sure, they might decide to stay friends for right now, but we would love to see if anything develops in the future.
