The Winchesters, the Supernatural spin-off focused on John and Mary, will premiere in the fall on The CW. Though we don’t have an exact premiere date, information is continuing to come in about the series including where it was filmed.

The show’s predecessor filmed in Vancouver. The Canadian locale has become the go-to setting for many of The CW’s shows over the years. And, while series like All American and All American: Homecoming are shot in Los Angeles, the short lived Naomi was filmed in Atlanta, and both Roswell, New Mexico and Walker Independence shot in Santa Fe, it’s common for shows on the network to film in Canada.

Vancouver is what gave Supernatural that blue cool it’s known for. It’s beautiful and can be sprawling in a way that’s overwhelming which worked for the series about two brothers battling demons and other unearthly beings in its fifteen season run.

But, given the warmth and bright hues in shows like The Flash, the area is multifaceted, allowing for many of the network’s shows to set the visual tone that best fits their storytelling. Is The Winchesters among that rank? Here’s what we know!

Where is The Winchesters filmed?

No, The Winchesters isn’t filming in Vancouver or Canada at all. When speaking to TVLine at CW Upfront 2022, Jensen Ackles disclosed the show’s filming location. The pilot was shot in New Orleans and that’s where the rest of the season will be shot as well. Ackles said the following about the setting difference:

"It’s going to be a period piece, it’s in the 1970s… so it’s going to have a different look…a whole different tonal quality. It’s more ambers, which gives it that vintage look."

New Orleans is perfect for the shift in color palette. As you’ll see in the trailer below, there’s a funk (and quite frankly spunk), to this new series that skews hip and fresh despite its blast from the past air. While Vancouver could capture the same energy, New Orleans’ look gives The Winchesters a bit of oomph that’ll set it apart from the other shows on The CW.
