After six seasons and 105 episodes, we’ve finally reached the end of NBC’s This Is Us. Are you ready to say goodbye to the Pearson family?
Last week, the entire family gathered to pay their respects to the Pearson matriarch, Rebecca, who grew ill and was not expected to make it through the night. Every family member shared their personal story with Rebecca. Toby thanked Rebecca for always believing in him. Annie praised Rebecca for telling her to use her small size to her advantage. Beth reassured Rebecca that she will do a good job taking care of Randall.
While that was going on, Rebecca envisions herself aboard a train as William guides her from cart to cart, going by the Big Three at various times in their lives. She speaks with Dr. K in the bar cart, who praises Rebecca for her toughness. Rebecca arrives at the final cart but refuses to go in until someone special arrives. That person was Kate, who finally made it to her bedside in the nick of time. As Rebecca finally crawls into the bed of the final cart, she turns around to see Jack, who smiles and says, “Hey.”
The episode also introduced Marcus Brooks and his family. In 1998, the Brooks family was in a car accident, and Marcus required serious medical attention. It turns out that night was the same night when the Pearson’s house burnt down. In a stunning turn of events, both Jack and Marcus were being treated by the same doctor. The doctor leaves Jack to save Marcus, but Jack suddenly dies without anyone to save him. Years later, Marcus became a doctor who made significant contributions to Alzheimer’s.
