Is This Is Us cancelled?

Since This Is Us debuted on our television screens in Sept. 2016, the series has been a hit with the audience. The Pearsons entered our lives and our hearts. And we never want to say goodbye.

We’ve followed the lives of Rebecca and Jack and their kids, the Big Three, at various life stages. The NBC drama series stars a wonderful ensemble cast including Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, Sterling K. Brown, Chrissy Metz, Justin Hartley, and more.

Last night’s episode was emotional as the Pearson family officially said goodbye to our beloved Rebecca at her funeral. The season 6 finale focused on the small moments in life that we can sometimes take for granted. Kids don’t appreciate those family moments until they grow up and look back. And, of course, one of the scenes that got the waterworks going – the very final one where Rebecca and Jack are reunited and exchange I love yous.

That was the end of the sixth season. So will there be more?

Is This Is Us cancelled?

This Is Us did not get cancelled by NBC. But it also won’t be coming back. In May 2021, it was announced the series would return for a sixth and final season. This is how long creator Dan Fogelman envisioned the story going.

Many times when shows come to an end, fans immediately wonder if the story they love may continue in a spinoff. According to TVLine, as of now the showrunner doesn’t have any plans to create a sequel. He told the outlet, “I really feel we’ve put these stories to bed now.”

It does feel like the story came to a very satisfying end. I will say it would have been nice to see just a few more glimpses into the Big Three’s futures, and how the lives of their kids turn out. When Jack reassures Rebecca she’ll be around for everything that matters, they could have inserted some quick flash-forwards at that point.

The This Is Us series finale may have been a quieter one compared to other shows, but it was no less powerful. After all, the most important things in life are those small moments, and we have to remember to live and appreciate them with the ones we love.
