The time for historical romantic drama Reign on Netflix is nearing its end. Unfortunately, three out of the four seasons of The CW series will be pulled from the streaming service next month.

Starting June 23, Reign fans will no longer be able to watch the show on Netflix. Since the streaming giant isn’t its original distributor, there’s only a limited time it can run the show on its platform. Warner Brothers (which owns The CW), has a deal with Netflix to stream its content for five years.

It’s not known yet when Reign season 4 will be removed, but it could be very soon. So to be on the safe side, you might want to binge all four seasons before June 23 if you’re a fan of the drama series. If you’ve never seen Reign, then here’s a few reasons why you should check it out on Netflix before it’s gone!

Why you should watch Reign before it leaves Netflix

The historical setting

Many people have a soft spot for historical dramas. Just look at the immense popularity of Bridgerton. A big draw for people is the story. But we’re all also very obsessed with the Regency-era of life.

Reign is set in the late sixteenth century of France. It’s all about the politics and complications that come with the French court and its sets are truly amazing. Your eyes can also enjoy the wonderfully made costumes. And, though the drama doesn’t really go for historical accuracy, the setting really does take you back in time.

The female characters

I love the cast of Reign, everyone did such an amazing job! Adelaide Kane took on the role of Mary, Queen of Scots. She does such a great work portraying a strong female character, who is also vulnerable and soft during her coming-of-age years.

The female characters definitely take the lead in this series. Actress Megan Follows brings Catherine de Medici to life. She’s someone you love to hate, but she and Mary do end up getting along in later seasons. And, let’s not forget Queen Elizabeth I played by actress Rachel Skarsten. All three female characters bring so much to the show and are three-dimensional. The series portrays how good they are at navigating a world run by men.

The story

Reign is definitely not completely historically accurate, but that doesn’t mean it fails to tell a good story. The show was really good at mixing in the complicated political court life with the lightness but scariness that comes with young adulthood. I’m a sucker for fantasy dramas as well, so I definitely liked the supernatural elements thrown in. The writers managed to bring all three of these elements together into a regal story.
