The return of two of the most iconic characters in Star Wars history has arrived in the brand new Disney+ series, Obi-Wan Kenobi. In this post, I review the first episode of the series to give you an idea of whether the series is worth checking out or not.

The series follows Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi as he watches over a young Luke Skywalker and evades the Empire’s elite Jedi hunters during his exile on the desert planet Tatooine.

The first episode opened with a flashback of the entire Star Wars saga. I LOVED how they opened the show, such a nostalgic feel to remind us of what happened and prepare us for what is ahead.

Sung Kang and his crew are on the hunt for anyone opposing them. While this is going down, Inquisitor Reva lets it be known that she is hunting Obi-Wan, but Sung Kang reminds her that they have given up their search for him. Next, we see Obi-Wan for the first time, who seems to be working at a plant where he is just making do by keeping a low profile. As we get to see where he has laid down his roots, upon him falling asleep, we realize that he is having ‘nightmares’ about the battle with Anakin.

Later, we meet Leia (the most adorable little girl ever), who we see finds herself in trouble and it doesn’t seem like this is the first time. A perfect little introduction to her character.

Sung Kang and Inquisitor show up where Obi-Wan is and start to question everyone about whether they know if a Jedi is there. Inquisitor begins to question Owen and threatens his life until Sung Kang stops her. Kang is starting to get more and more frustrated with her actions. She lets him know that she will find him and get what is owed to her. After their confrontation, we see Obi-Wan thanks Owen for not outing the fact that he is there.

Back to Leia, who is up to no good, but honestly, she is sticking up for those around her because a little boy is a bit of a bully to everyone. Again, I love this little girl and the spunk she is bringing to the role of Leia. However, upon wandering off again, a couple of bad guys chase down and capture Leia. The senator rings up Obi-Wan and begs him to help find her and he refuses to help because ten years have passed and he isn’t who he once was.

The senator arrives to plead with Obi-Wan to save Leia. While he agrees to take on the task, we see that Inquisitor is behind the kidnapping of Leia to make Obi-Wan come back to rescue her and she can finish the job. Back to Obi-Wan, who opens up a crate with his lightsaber inside of it. He arrives to head onto the ship to save the day and the episode ends.

Overall, I rather enjoyed the first episode. It was a bit of a slow burn which I liked because it laid down the groundwork for the stakes that our hero is facing in the forthcoming episodes. It was incredible to see some of the familiar faces throughout the episode. Extremely happy and ready to watch episode two.
