We saw quite a lot happen over the first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi. From the kidnapping of Leia to Obi-Wan returning to battle to the final moments where he found out Anakin Skywalker was still alive. Can the series continue its momentum? Let’s dive in.

The episode begins with Obi-Wan replaying that moment in his head when Inquisitor Reva told him about Anakin. As he is replaying this in his head, we see the pieces coming together for the suit of Darth Vader. Then, we transition to Darth Vader and Reva having a conversation about Obi-Wan and he tells her that he wants Kenobi, NOW. Honestly, I almost cried, the moments of Hayden first walking and talking as Darth Vader, MIND BLOWN. I loved this moment.

Leia and Obi-Wan are chatting it up as they are on the move back to return her to her family. The relationship continues to take form as he tells her stories about where they are, what the land used to be and how everyone isn’t friendly people. But then, Obi-Wan sees something in the distance that frightens him. He looked down at Leia and looked up and that person was gone. I love the idea that maybe Obi-Wan sees things, or perhaps he is going crazy because of finding out about Anakin.

We move back to the ship, where we see the Fifth Brother and Reva going back and forth about who is in charge. Finally, she informs him that she spoke to Darth Vader and he said to let her lead the hunt. However, he isn’t happy with her actions and lets it be known that he wants that seat at the table.

Vivien Lyra Blair continues to steal the show as Leia in Obi-Wan Kenobi

Haja seems to have sent Obi-Wan and Leia to the middle of nowhere. A very impatient Leia stops a truck and gets them a ride to the port. I love the writing here of Leia so much. she is just a kid, doing kid things and acting like a kid, which is obviously killing Obi-Wan, but their banter is so well written. On their ride to the port, a couple of Troopers need a ride and the ride went from fun to serious awfully fast for our favorite duo. A slip-up almost catches Obi-Wan in a lie, but he saves himself with a nice coverup.

After the Troopers get off the truck, Leia starts to question Obi-Wan again about who he is, how he knows her mother and even questions whether or not he is her father. When she digs deeper, they come up to a checkpoint where it forces the duo to get off the truck by Troopers. As a facial recognition is about to scan Obi-Wan’s face, he begins to battle the troopers and takes them all out, or so he thinks. A mystery tank shows up and they think they are done for, but it’s someone who saves them instead.

Haja actually came through for the pair, but Obi-Wan’s uncertainty made them move earlier than they needed to and now they are in a potential scenario where they are fighting to get out. A member of the Imperial service is helping them get out as they sneak through a town until the ship is scheduled to take off. After a couple of close calls, everything seems set for them until Darth Vader arrives and puts Obi-Wan in a trance.

As Vader walks around the city, he uses the force for the first time and my goodness, was it cool to see. Then, Obi-Wan asks the Tala (Imperial officer) to get Leia out of town and he will catch up with them. Next, we see Obi-Wan attempting to leave the city, but instead, we get our first interaction between Vader and Obi-Wan which leads to the first dual between the two!!!!!

As the episode comes to a close, the battle between Vader and Kenobi is very one-sided as Vader gets the upper hand and throws Kenobi to the fire, literally. He wants him to feel the pain he felt and as he asks the Storm Troopers to bring Kenobi to him, Tala comes to the rescue and helps Kenobi getaway. Next, we see Reva come face to face with Leia and boom, episode over.

Overall, I was honestly scared because these shows tend to taper off after the opening few episodes. However, part three takes what they built in the first two episodes and sets the world on fire. It is HANDS DOWN one of the best episodes on Disney+ we have seen to date. We got the tease of the battle, some continuation of the new characters and an ending that’ll make us come back for more.
