What is the movie Cha Cha Real Smooth about?

There’s a new movie for the comedy-drama fans out there headed to Apple TV+ very soon! Cha Cha Real Smooth premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival in January, and will have its official release in limited theaters and on the streaming service beginning June 17.

The film stars Dakota Johnson as Domino and Cooper Raiff as Andrew. Raiff wrote, directed, produced, and co-edited the new movie, with Johnson serving as a producer.

Also rounding out the cast are Vanessa Burghardt, Leslie Mann, Brad Garrett, Raúl Castillo, Evan Assante, Odeya Rush, Kelly O’Sullivan, Colton Osorio, and Liam Jones. So far the upcoming production has received a score of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes.

What is Cha Cha Real Smooth about?

The story follows 22-year-old Andrew (Raiff) who is fresh out of college and doesn’t have a clear life path going forward. So he decides to move back in with his family in New Jersey. And, while the new graduate doesn’t know what to do next, there is one thing he definitely knows how to do – get a party started. This lands him a job as a motivational dancer at the bar and bat mitzvahs for his younger brother’s classmates.

Based on the trailer, Andrew meets local mom, Domino (Johnson), and her autistic daughter Lola (Burghardt) at one of these events. When the trio strikes up a friendship, he knows the future he wants – even if it might not be his own. The movie synopsis reveals the film is a tale of unconventional love that brims with emotional honesty. I’m a sucker for these kinds of movies, so this is one that’s definitely been added to my watch list!

The trailer shows that sparks fly between Andrew and Domino, who already has a fiancée. And, it doesn’t seem like everything will be smooth sailing for the couple. Will they be able to be together at the end? We’ll have to wait and see. But, thankfully, the release of the new film is only days away!
