TV is great at the moment, but it’s about to get even better thanks to the Apple TV+ platform. Black Bird is an upcoming limited series you are going to want to keep on your radar. One thing many are asking ahead of the release, is if the events are based on true events. Is Black Bird a true story? Here’s what we know!

Black Bird is not ready to take flight just yet, but we do have a premiere date and it’s coming sooner than you think! The limited series is scheduled for release on July 8, exclusively on Apple TV+. Ray Liotta fans can’t wait for the release as it is the late actor’s final completed project. Liotta passed away in his sleep on May 26, 2022. The series also stars Taron Egerton, Paul Walter Hauser, Greg Kinnear, and Sepideh Moafi.

Black Bird is an adaptation of the true-crime memoir “In With The Devil: A Fallen Hero, A Serial Killer, and A Dangerous Bargain for Redemption,” by James Keene and Hillel Levin. Dennis Lehane is the series creator and producer.

The upcoming psychological thriller will consist of six episodes. The first two episodes will become available to stream on July 8, and then one weekly episode will follow. Now, for the big question.

Is Black Bird on Apple TV+ a true story?

Black Bird is, in fact, based on true events. The story follows Jimmy Keene (Egerton), the son of Big Jim Keene (Liotta), a respected and decorated policeman. Unfortunately, his dad isn’t able to help him out of trouble and Jimmy is sentenced to 10 years in prison, but he has a choice: Jimmy can either serve the 10 years with no parole, or agree to befriend Larry Hall (Hauser) a suspected killer serving time in a maximum security prison for the criminally insane. In order to prosecute Larry, Jimmy needs to get a confession out of him.

Don’t forget to begin streaming this series on July 8, only on Apple TV+.
