There have been some horrible TV dads over the years. Who make it to the list of worst TV dads of all time? Here are our top 6 to mark Father’s day 2022.
I’ll admit that this post was actually extremely hard. There are some terrible TV dads throughout the years. We can look at sitcoms like Married with Children and animated shows like The Simpsons for examples of what dads shouldn’t be like.
However, some of these dads did gain redemption. There are others that have gone down as selfish, self-absorbed, and downright dangerous when it comes to their children. We’re looking at those who won’t be getting the #1 Dad cards for Father’s Day 2022.
6. Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones
Let’s start with one of the most obvious fathers in TV. Tywin Lannister gets a special award for being a despicable father. He does things in the name of his house, but that doesn’t make up for the horrible treatment of all three of his children.
The worst treatment is against his youngest child, Tyrion. Tywin blames Tyrion for his wife’s death (that’s a common thing for men when their wives die in childbirth) and hates him for being a dwarf. He doesn’t exactly like Cersei and Jaime, making it clear that their jobs are to continue the house’s name and reputation.
In the end, Tyrion did get his revenge. He killed Tywin while Twyin sat on the privy. The best thing was that the entire Lannister family crumbled with Tywin gone. Sure, he definitely kept his family together, but he didn’t do it for them.
5. Dexter Morgan in Dexter
Some fathers just can’t spend time with their children. Their obsessions get in the way, and Dexter is one of those fathers making him one of the worst TV dads in all of history.
It’s not that he’s a serial killer. Sure, that’s a bad thing, but this isn’t the thing that makes him the worst dad ever. It’s all about how the obsession takes over. Dexter can’t even spend time with his children without thinking of murder. His obsession stops him from having any quality time with his children, and it wouldn’t be surprising if the children never cared an ounce about him because of that.
There is another dad who could fit this. John Winchester from Supernatural also lets his obsession get in the way. However, John does get a pass in the fact that it’s grief causing a lot of the issues, and the Winchester brothers do grow up protecting America from the things that go bump in the night.
