Will Bonnie Bennett return to the Vampire Diaries universe?

The Vampire Diaries wouldn’t have been as great as it was without Bonnie Bennett, especially in the earlier seasons. As we look at whether The Vampire Diaries universe can continue now that Legacies is done, we have to look at whether Kat Graham could ever return?

Bonnie Bennett was Elena Gilbert’s best friend. The two ended up having their life forces tied. Bonnie couldn’t live if Elena did, and vice versa. It’s how the show managed to write Elena out of the story when Nina Dobrev chose to leave.

It looks like The Vampire Diaries universe has come to an end. However, Julie Plec says that it’s not completely over just yet. She and others are looking for ways to develop a fourth series. Could it be about Bonnie?

We’d love to see a story focused on the witches of Mystic Falls. That would mean Kat Graham would need to reprise her role as Bonnie Bennett, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.

Kat Graham has moved on from The Vampire Diaries

The reason we haven’t seen Bonnie return for any of the spin-offs isn’t because the writers couldn’t find a way to bring her back. Instead, it was due to Kat Graham.

Plec tells Deadline that she did reach out to Graham a number of times to bring Bonnie back. Each time, she was met with a “No.” Graham is currently focused on being an activist and a singer, as well as other acting projects.

Graham feels like Bonnie’s journey is complete. We certainly saw her come full circle as a witch and a friend. There was some closure for the character by the end, especially after that time spent in limbo with Damon Salvatore.

However, Plec says that the “door will always be open.” It could just be an appearance in a future show, or it could be a spin-off about Bonnie. That is something Plec will keep open for the actress. There’s no bad blood between them.
