The Patient on Hulu: How many episodes are in this season?

Steve Carell truly is a talent! He went from a completely comedic role on NBC’s The Office to fully dramatic on Apple TV+’s The Morning Show. Now, we’re going to be seeing the actor in another serious role as he leads the new series, The Patient.

The actor, who plays Alan Strauss on the new show, also serves as an executive producer. The psychological thriller was created, written, and executive produced by Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg for FX on Hulu.

Joining Carell onscreen are actors Domhnall Gleeson as Sam Fortner, Linda Emond as Candace, Andrew Leeds as Ezra, Laura Niemi, Alex Rich, and David Alan Grie.

The Patient debuts on Tuesday, Aug. 30 with the first two episodes on Hulu. Following premiere day, one new episode will be released weekly until the finale on Oct. 25. There will be a total of 10 episodes, each of them running for half an hour.

What is The Patient about?

The psychological thriller focuses on therapist Alan Strauss (Carell) who is held prisoner by one of his patients, Sam Fortner (Gleeson). He reveals himself to be a serial killer and has an unusual demand for his psychiatrist – he wants Alan’s help curbing his homicidal urges.

The therapist has to unwind Sam’s disturbed mind to prevent him from killing again. As he’s alone in captivity, Alan also needs to address his own past and confront his repressed troubles. Those include the recent death of his wife and the painful estrangement from his religious son, Ezra.
