Hulu’s The Patient release date, trailer, cast, synopsis and more

This summer, streamers keep bringing us great psychological thrillers! There’s Apple TV+’s recently released Black Bird, and upcoming series Surface. Now there’s a new one to add to the list, and that’s Hulu’s psychological thriller, The Patient.

The show is created, written, and executive produced by Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg for FX on Hulu. Caroline Moore and Victor Hsu are also set as executive producers.

Steve Carell is in the leading role in front of the cameras, while also taking part behind the scenes as an executive producer. The actor has portrayed a whole range of characters, but I’m particularly excited to see him in this new role.

The Patient release date

The limited series is set to debut on Tuesday, Aug. 30 with the first two episodes. There will be a total of 10 episodes, each of them running for half an hour, Deadline reports.

The Patient synopsis

Hulu shared that the upcoming psychological thriller centers around therapist, Alan Strauss (Carell). He is held prisoner by a patient of his, Sam Fortner. The troubled man reveals himself to be a serial killer and has an unusual demand for his therapist: curb his homicidal urges.

Alan has to unwind Sam’s disturbed mind to stop him from killing again, but he refuses to address critical topics like his mother Candace. As he’s alone in captivity, Alan also needs to address his own past and confront his own repressed troubles like the recent death of his wife and the painful estrangement from his religious son, Ezra.

During his imprisonment Alan discovers just how deep Sam’s compulsion runs, and realizes how much work he himself has to do to repair the challenges with his own family.
