Abbott Elementary, the standout series of last year’s freshman class, premieres its second season on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC. Fans of the show have been waiting anxiously to be returned to this feel good show that is as heartfelt as it is hilarious.

When we last left off with the Abbott crew, Janine had made a major life decision. Instead of following her boyfriend Tariq to a new city, she chose to stay in Philly. The two had been together for years, through her formative teen years and partway through her 20s.

Janine doesn’t know herself outside of their relationship which means Abbott Elementary season 2 is partially going to focus on her self-discovery. It’s an exciting time, but also a terrifying one as she figures out what she wants for herself and from life. Of course, much of this will be explored within the school’s setting, but we’ll be seeing the characters’ home lives this season, too.

We expect season 2 of the series will embody the magic it introduced its audience to in its freshman run, and can’t wait to see where Brunson and the rest of the cast take us with the next part of the journey. Who’s in the cast of the second season? Here’s what we know!

All of the main cast are returning for season 2. William Standford Davis, who plays Mr. Johnson (Abbott’s custodian), has been promoted to a series regular. We’re looking forward to more of Mr. Johnson’s off-the-wall asides and commentary.
