House of the Dragon Season 1 has finally premiered, and we’re ready for more. How many episodes will there be in this Game of Thrones prequel series?

House of the Dragon picks up almost 200 years before the time of Game of Thrones. The first episode tells us that it is exactly 172 years before Daenerys Targaryen is born, and there’s a question of succession to the Iron Throne.

The people of Westeros don’t want a female on the throne. However, Daemon Targaryen isn’t stable enough to rule. The best option is Viserys’s daughter, and he has shared the secrets of the Targaryen prophecy. The Targaryens will bring the Prince Who Is Promised to bring an end to the Song of Ice and Fire.

Of course, we know exactly what Viserys was talking about. While it was Arya who killed the Night King, it was Jon and Daenerys who helped to bring everyone together to make it all possible.

But for now, the focus is on just keeping the Targaryen dynasty going. Dragons are necessary, and that means the line of succession must hold firm. Get ready for a lot of drama in the weeks to come.

House of the Dragon Season 1 episode count

Just how many weeks of drama will we get? How many episodes are going to be in House of the Dragon Season 1?

This is a 10-episode season, which is what most HBO shows are. It’s only the odd one or two that gets a shorter or slightly longer season. Game of Thrones got 10 episodes per season for the first six seasons. It was only the last two that were shortened, and the final season did have longer episodes to make up for it.

House of the Dragon is set to have 10 normal-length episodes. They will run through to Sunday, Oct. 23.
