Any Disney fan knows the song “When You Wish Upon a Star.” It’s one of the most recognizable aspects when it comes to the company. Of course the classic song came from the classic animated 1940 film, Pinocchio. And now that Disney+ has a live-action remake, the tune is definitely one that we’ll hear in the upcoming movie!

The CGI retelling will follow woodcarver Geppetto who creates the infamous puppet, Pinocchio. Longing for a child, he wishes on a star for the titular character to become a real boy. The Blue Fairy grants his wish, making Pinocchio almost a real boy. Before he becomes one, he’ll first have to go an a journey to learn to be selfless, brave, and true.

Benjamin Evan Ainsworth lends his voice to portray Pinocchio, with Tom Hanks taking on the role of Geppetto. Joining them in the new film, which premieres Sept. 8 on Disney+, are Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Jiminy Cricket, Keegan-Michael Key as “Honest” John, Luke Evans as The Coachman, and Lorraine Bracco as new character, the Seagull.

Of course we can’t forget about the Blue Fairy! She’s the one who makes all of Geppetto’s dreams come true after all. So who voices this character and is she the one who sings in the trailer?

If you’ve seen the trailer, then that means you heard the beautiful, soulful rendition of “When You Wish Upon A Star.” And it’s the Blue Fairy herself, actress Cynthia Erivo, who sings in the two-minute look! Not only does she lend her voice as the important character, we’ll also hear her perform the song in the film.

Erivo is an English actress, singer, and songwriter. She’s received multiple accolades for acting and her beautiful voice, including a Grammy and Tony Award. I’m so excited to see her portray the Blue Fairy. And if the snippet in the trailer is anything to go by, her version of the beloved song is definitely going to pull on our heartstrings!
