The highly-anticipated release of Elvis finally happened when the Warner Bros. Pictures biopic debuted theatrically on June 24. Now, fans who might not want to see it on the big screen are waiting for the film to come to streaming.

The biographical musical drama chronicles the life and career of cultural icon Elvis Presley, from his early days as a child to his unprecedented rise to fame. Actor Austin Butler portrays the role of the star, with Tom Hanks taking on the role of Elvis’ manager, Colonel Tom Parker. The duo’s complicated relationship also plays out onscreen.

Typically, all of Warner Bros. 2022 theatrical releases have arrived on HBO Max 45 days after their debut in cinemas. So is that the case for Elvis?

When will Elvis start streaming on HBO Max?

Initially, the plan was that the movie about the rock and roll legend would be released on HBO Max 45 days after it hit the big screens. That would have been an Aug. 8 release on the streamer. But those subscribed to the platform know Elvis isn’t in the current catalog.

The good news is that we now know exactly when the movie is coming to the streaming service! HBO Max shared Elvis will be released Friday, Sept. 2. Phew! We were really nervous the film wouldn’t be coming at all.

It seems like Warner Bros. isn’t necessarily going to follow the 45-day structure anymore. According to Decider, the production company said that going forward, HBO Max release dates for movies will be on a case by case basis instead of the 45 days post-release we’ve gotten used to.

It’s been a hot mess at HBO Max and its parent company Warner Bros. The production company merged with Discovery, which has caused many major changes already. That includes the streaming service removing some of its content quietly, and even the DC Comics movie Batgirl has been completely scrapped.

Other than the streaming option on HBO Max, you can also rent the production for $19.99 on Prime Video, or buy it for $24.99. Elvis will also be available to purchase on Blu-ray and DVD beginning Sept. 13.
