The Patient, an FX on Hulu psychological thriller created by Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg (The Americans), stars Steve Carell as therapist Alan Strauss who’s been kidnapped by his patient.

Sam Fortner, played by Domhnall Gleeson, has taken drastic measures to ensure he gets the help he needs. See, Sam is holding his therapist prisoner because he’s trying to stop himself from killing someone. Unfortunately, he’s no stranger to murder. While this act is a preventive tactic, Sam has killed before. In fact, he’s a serial killer.

Now, against his will, Alan must walk the very tricky tight rope of keeping himself alive and making sure that Sam doesn’t claim his next victim. What’s working on his side is that the killer doesn’t want to murder again. He wants to overcome this compulsion that’s left nothing but devastation in its wake.
