13 Netflix romantic movies and shows to stream in September 2022

We’re headed into the fall season and leaving summer love behind us but that doesn’t mean we don’t have some stragglers to enjoy before we drop into autumn. The big romantic release on Netflix for September is Love in the Villa, the latest Kat Graham-led romance to come to the streamer.

This time, she plays Julie, a “Romeo & Juliet” adoring teacher whose trip to Verona, Italy doesn’t go well at first. She’s there without her now ex who’d she’d planned the whole trip around. And, there’s a man named Charlie in her villa who insists he booked it, too. Poor Julie can’t catch a break but if she lets herself let go perhaps she’ll find love where she didn’t expect it.

The rest of the romantic movies coming to Netflix are primarily classics like The Notebook, A Cinderella Story, and Save the Last Dance. But there are three more Netflix originals to anticipate as well.

Diorama is an off-beat Swedish drama about a couple whose passionate marriage is starting to flag. No Limit is a steamy French romance about destructive love between a freediver and her instructor. Finally, the latest Tyler Perry film, A Jazzman’s Blues, is a historical drama with a compelling forbidden love story as its central plot.

As for romantic series coming in September, buckle up for some reality dating nonsense! Dated & Related and Love is Blind: After the Altar season 2 are hitting the platform. Plus there’s the Spanish Netflix original, Who Likes My Follower? where influencers play matchmaker for unlucky in love followers.

The lone romantic series dropping is The Empress, a German period piece about a woman named Elisabeth who falls in love with Emperor Franz and must start navigating the Viennese court.

Love in the Villa (Sept. 1) – After a break-up, Julie decides to take the trip to Verona she’d be planning, but to add salt to the wound of being in the romantic city, it seems her villa has been double booked. Charlie, a cynical Brit, won’t give the place up so the two clash spectacularly until they take things a tad too far and are forced to calm down. Once the dust settles, this unlikely pair decide to call a truce, it’s a decision that gives way to an unexpected connection and the spark of a romance if they can open their hearts and trust one another.

Dated & Related (Sept. 2) – Netflix loves a messy reality dating series and this show is likely to be one of their messiest. Each person in Date & Related has brought their sibling along to help them pick between who’s worthy of pursuing a relationship with and who should get the romantic boot. This means, of course, that their siblings (who are also looking for love) will get a front row seat for every joy, heartbreak, and ill-advised decision they make along the way. Talk about awkward!
