Tell Me Lies age rating: Why is the show rated TV-MA?

Tell Me Lies makes its premiere Wednesday, Sept. 7 on Hulu. The ten episode series follows the tumultuous and toxic romance between Lucy Albright and Steven Stephen DeMarco.
The pair meet in college and fall into a relationship that upends their lives. Between bad decisions, heartbreak, and betrayal, these two go through the ringer and along for the ride are their friends and loved ones.
We’ll be on this journey with Lucy and Steven well into October. Tell Me Lies debuts its first three episodes on Sept. 7 and then will release weekly on Wednesdays until the finale on Oct. 26.
The series is based on the New Adult book of the same name by Carola Lovering. Like its source material, Tell Me Lies is a blend of romance, drama, and thrilling storytelling. Due to its content, the show has been rated TV-MA. Here’s a breakdown of why.
Tell Me Lies age rating explained
This Hulu original is Dramatic, with a capital D. Be prepared for storylines involving grief, parental issues, drug abuse, and death. The thematic elements include depictions of alcohol consumption, sexual content that’s explicit, and nudity. Strong language is also used throughout the show.
As noted above, Tell Me Lies follows a toxic romance. Infidelity, gaslighting, and emotional manipulation will be a part of the plot. This show is a mess of entanglements and choices that have consequences for the characters in the story.
