The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 premieres on Hulu on Wednesday, Sept. 14. The first two episodes drop, but what are they going to cover? What is this whole season going to be about?

There is some excellent news for all Handmaid’s Tale fans out there. The first two episodes of the new season are almost here. It’s time to pick up off the back of the fourth season finale to see what’s next for June.

It’s not all about her, either. We have other characters that we’re going to see in action. One of those is Serena Joy, who finds herself a pregnant widow. Another is Luke, who needs to figure out if he can stand by his wife after her actions. Then there’s Moira, who realizes that what she wants and what June wants are two very different things.

We also need to head back to Gilead. We left Esther as a Handmaid, but will she do her duty or find a way out of it all?

What is The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 about?

We don’t have a synopsis for every single episode of the season. That’s not surprising. Getting the synopsis for the finale would give away far too much about the events to come.

We do have a synopsis for the first two episodes of the season, though. The first episode picks up off the back of the fourth season finale. June and a few others in Canada killed Fred Waterford. This is going to have a huge knock-on effect.

June is likely to struggle with what she did. She needs to figure out who she is after those acts, while also still focusing on finding her daughter, Hannah, in Gilead. Luke is sure to find out what June did, but can he stand by her after her actions? And what about Moira and Rita when they learn the truth?

Then there’s Serena Joy, who is now a widow. She’ll want to raise her profile in Toronto, but will she also head back to Gilead to give her husband a state funeral? What will the other Commanders think when they hear a former Handmaid killed a Commander?

Meanwhile, in Gilead, we know Esther has become a Handmaid. How will she take that? This isn’t a woman willing to just accept her fate. Chances are she has a few plans up her sleeve until her spirit is broken.
