If anyone knows anything about Survivor, it’s that blindsides are a staple to this game. Survivor 43 episode 5 does not shy away from this reality TV show standard and one player goes home with their jaw hitting the floor.

Last week’s episode highlighted Cody and his ability to negotiate for his tribe, while tonight’s episode gave fans further proof of Karla’s dynamic gameplay. After discovering a “Beware Advantage” in episode 3, and using her social charm to earn a hidden immunity idol, tonight’s episode continues to highlight the tight-knit relationships she’s formed with each of her tribemates.

What happened in Survivor 43 episode 5 to lead to a jaw-dropping blindside?

The immunity challenge, along with the losing tribe, was like an hourglass being turned over for one player; once set in motion, eventually their time is up. The Vesi (red) tribe continued their streak of finishing first in back-to-back weeks, after going to tribal council in back-to-back weeks. Not only that, they were allowed to pick a member of each tribe to visit a remote location to potentially earn an advantage in the game.

Although Vesi broke its streak of losses with a couple of wins, the Coco (blue) tribe solidified their place back at tribal council for a second week in a row. On top of that, Ryan admitted to throwing the challenge to send Cassidy home. As stunning as that might be, he did so with such certainty that he and Geo were controlling the game.

Famous last words? When Coco loses and Geo is picked to go off with members of the other two tribes, Ryan tries to sell his plan. He tells Karla and James his plan; in short: “tell Cassidy to vote me, because I lost the challenge, but the ‘real plan’ is to vote out Cassidy.” As Karla navigates this information, she and James appear to be the true middle ground where they can decide who stays and who goes.

As for Geo, with his adventure to a small island with Jesse and Jeanine, a decision had to be made. You either risk your vote for the chance to win an advantage, with the potential of losing your vote, or you don’t risk anything to keep your vote. If fans have learned anything about Survivor, not everything is what it seems.

All three players risked their vote and Geo came out on top. Would he win something to ensure his or Ryan’s safety at tribal council? Would it be an extra vote or an immunity idol? Unfortunately, he opened the results of whether he succeeded or not in front of Karla. Survivor 43 episode 5 threw a wrench into Karla’s plans as soon as he read aloud his advantage.

He wins the “Knowledge is Power” advantage; he can ask any one player if they have an advantage or an idol, and then that player has to be honest. If they have what he asks for, that player has to give it to Geo. This should be great news for Geo, if he hadn’t opened it in front of the only person on his tribe who has a hidden immunity idol – that is in fact still a secret.

Cassidy also became a potential option after paranoia set in. After arriving to tribal council, it was clearly going to come down to either Ryan, Cassidy, or Geo. It’s not every single day you get such a dramatic reaction from a player being voted out, but Survivor 43 episode 5 should be notated for future reference. After two votes cast for Cassidy and two votes for Geo, one final vote led to such a memorable conclusion.

If you’re looking for a jaw-dropping moment, then you’ll have to watch it for yourself. Despite the shock in being voted out, Geo still put together kind words, highlighting good sportsmanship as he doesn’t regret his aggressive style. Despite the outcome, it’s clear Geo will gladly push the envelope again if he were given a second change to come back.
