It’s been an interesting year for The CW network and The CW shows, and not in the best of ways. Following the sale of the network, there have been a lot of changes to come across 2022 including many shakeups to the network’s schedule — a schedule that has long been among the most consistent in the business.

While other networks built a reputation for untimely cancellations for both new and long-running series, The CW had become a safe haven for fans. Not only did the network boast one of the highest renewal rates each season, but when a decision was made to end a series it was often via a final season. Then came this year which saw a wave of shocking and heartbreaking cancellations.

But cancellations haven’t been the only shakeup fans have had to endure this year. In addition to canceling many shows, The CW’s schedule has looked quite different this fall with the network opting to air more acquired shows than originals in its fall slate, resulting in delayed returns for certain shows.

When you pair those delayed returns with the massive wave of cancellations, it can be hard to know which shows will and won’t be coming back next year. While there are some great CW shows coming in 2023, fans definitely shouldn’t expect to see the returns of these three shows.

3. Dynasty

For five seasons, Dynasty managed to evade cancellation even when it often ranked among the network’s least-watched programs. Many outsiders looking in were easy to mock The CW for renewing the series when referencing its linear ratings, but what those outsiders always overlooked was the show’s global appeal and status as one of the top-performing series via streaming.

While the show never made the biggest of rating waves on the network, Dynasty was beloved by fans worldwide who had the chance to follow the crazy adventures of the Carringtons via the show’s Netflix deal. That deal helped the show cheat death several years in a row, in the process allowing fans to enjoy more than 100 episodes of the charming and devilishly delicious primetime soap.

Sadly, with The CW’s sale and the new brass no longer looking at the streaming deals in place and the CW shows’ performance on said streaming platforms, Dynasty was canceled in 2022 among a handful of other shows, and will not be returning as part of the network’s 2023 lineup. Still, at least we can relive all the amazing moments from the show on Netflix as seasons 1-5 are streaming now.
