What happened to Luc in the House of the Dragon Season 1 finale?

If you know Game of Thrones, you know that not everyone makes it through the entire series. What happened to Luc in House of the Dragon‘s first season finale?

We all know that not everyone is going to survive in House of the Dragon. Game of Thrones taught us not to get attached to anyone—animal and human, alike. A lot of things have gone down throughout the first season, but nothing as major as Luc’s story at the end of the finale.

To gain support for her claim, Rhaenyra’s children rode out to places who had previously sworn for her. Luc rode out to Storm’s End to see Lord Baratheon. He didn’t make it there before the Greens, though, which brought trouble for the young prince.

Did Luc die in the House of the Dragon Season 1 finale?

Aemond was already there, bringing word of an offer if the Baratheons sided with the Greens. This was a promise of marriage, and there was no way the lord was going to refuse this. So, Luc was sent home with disappointing news.

At one point, it looked like a fight would break out in the hall. Aemond threw Luc a dagger, telling Luc to cut out his eye. Years later—and despite it being prophesized by his sister—Aemond wants revenge for losing an eye to Luc. Baratheon refused to allow the fight to happen in his hall. As a messenger, Luc was allowed to leave peacefully.

That wasn’t something Aemond wanted. He climbed Vhagar and followed Luc on the back of the small Arrax into the storm. Had it not been for the storm, Arrax would have easily gotten away. He was much smaller and lighter, meaning he could fly faster. The storm made it harder for Arrax to fly, and that would have some devastating consequences.

Arrax and Vhagar collided in the storm, and Arrax understandably let out some fire. It hit Vhagar in the face. While it would have burned, it didn’t do a lot of damage to the much larger dragon, but it did make Vhagar angry. Vhagar refused to listen to Aemond in the storm, and Vhagar ended up grabbing Arrax in his mouth and shredded him to pieces.

Luc was on Arrax at the time, and they were in the air. We know Luc died in the fall, and he was likely in Vhagar’s teeth based on how Vhagar grabbed Arrax in the air.

Aemond immediately realized what had happened. We saw the look of guilt and sorrow. He didn’t mean for that to happen to his nephew, but now it’s too late. Rhaenyra will not let this murder go unpunished.
