DC’s Stargirl is coming to an end. The CW has decided to cancel the series after just three seasons. How abrupt will the ending be?

Halloween brought us some disappointing news. Just a week after learning Nancy Drew Season 4 would be the last, The CW has confirmed Stargirl Season 3 is the end. The series has been canceled, according to TVLine.

The cancellation isn’t all that surprising when you consider the live ratings. The show has dropped in the ratings considerably between the second and third seasons. It is an expensive series to produce. That doesn’t mean the decision isn’t disappointing, especially off the back of three CW shows coming to an end in 2023.

Will Stargirl Season 3 get a complete ending?

The season is already eight episodes into the season. That has led to understandable concerns for the ending of the series. Is there enough time to craft a complete ending, or will this be another series that ends on a cliffhanger?

It does sound like the creators were ready for this season being the last. That’s not surprising with the shock of decisions that came in May 2022, or considering that Nexstar has taken over the network and has not promised to keep the full lineup after this season. Anything could be canceled now.

Creator Geoff Johns has promised a “complete creative closure.” That’s great news considering the way things could have ended. We’d have hated something like a major villain just coming into the story in a way that the first and second seasons ended.

This would suggest that another network isn’t going to save the show. Usually, we’d turn to HBO Max or Netflix, but it’s unlikely that either of these two streamers will save the show. It could be difficult for Netflix considering DC Universe originally brought us the series. DC Universe has now merged into HBO Max. That’s not to say Netflix can’t save the show, but it looks like the CWverse is officially coming to an end. The Flash Season 9 will be the last, so all that’s left is Superman & Lois.
