Holiday films are one of the best things about the season, and this year we’ve got Spirited starring Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds! The movie comes to streaming Friday, Nov. 18 on Apple TV+.

This modern retelling of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens introduces us to the Ghost of Christmas Present (Ferrell) and Clint Briggs (Reynolds). Present chooses a “dark soul” to be redeemed every year, and that person this holiday season is Clint, Apple TV+ shares. Somehow our Scrooge-like character turns the tables on Present, who finds himself reexamining his own past, present, and future.

Also starring in the film are Octavia Spencer, Sunita Mani, and Patrick Page. Producer and co-writer Sean Anders directed the movie. Ferell also serves as a producer on the project.

The holidays are a great opportunity to spend time with your loved ones. Often times, that means with family. So while the film isn’t very mature, parents should still be cautious due to its PG-13 age rating.

Spirited age rating: Why is the Christmas movie PG-13?

If a movie is rated PG-13, that means parents are strongly cautioned as some material could be inappropriate for those under the age of 13. This could be because of strong language, extended violence, drug-use, or sexual situations.

In the case for Spirited, the Motion Picture Association gave the production a PG-13 rating due to language, some suggestive material, and thematic elements. As all the actors and the story revolve around adults, it’s no surprise their might be a bit more mature content. Our advice is if your kids want to watch the new film, then a parent should definitely be there with them.
