We are currently in the midst of Strictly Come Dancing‘s twentieth series. The long-running dancing competition program returned to BBC One earlier this year and it has entertained the UK for the past three months.

First debuting on screens back in 2004, Strictly has been a fixture of Saturday nights, fending off competition from juggernauts like The X Factor and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here over the years to remain one of the – if not the – most-watched programs on TV each week.

However, there is an unusual change to the BBC schedule this week that will see Strictly Week 11 air on Friday night, December 2, instead. Why the sudden change?

Why Strictly Come Dancing is airing on Friday this week

This week’s episode of Strictly Come Dancing will air on Friday, December 2, at 8:00 p.m. GMT instead of its typical Saturday night slot. The reason for the change is down to the FIFA World Cup, which is causing havoc with the schedules of both BBC and ITV (who are each airing certain matches).

In this case, a match is airing live in Strictly‘s usual slot, resulting in the move to Friday. It means that the contestants will have one less day to train, and that the usual Sunday night results show will air on Saturday evening in a much earlier timeslot of 5:40 p.m. GMT.

Friday’s episode of Strictly is the show’s eleventh competitive week, making it the Quarter-Final. It’s also Musicals Week, so the six remaining couples, Hamza & Jowita, Will & Nancy, Kym & Graziano, Helen & Gorka, Molly & Carlos, and Fleur & Vito will perform routines from some of the most famous musicals in the world in the hopes of making it to next week’s Semi-Final.
