The wait for The Mandalorian season 3 is almost over! Granted, the series isn’t returning for its third season in time for Christmas like fans had hoped, but we won’t be too far into 2023 when we’re reunited with Din Djarin and Grogu.

However, if you decided to skip The Book of Boba Fett, you’ll need to tune into at least part of that series to understand the events set to unfold in season 3. See, the last few episodes of Boba’s show acts as a makeshift The Mandalorian season 2.5. While we won’t spoil what happens, we can say that you’ll be confused tuning into the third season if you go in unaware of Mando and Grogu’s respective storylines in that series.

The Book of Boba Fett has a total of seven episodes, but it’s episodes 5-7 that you really need to pay attention to if you’re only curious about how it ties into The Mandalorian. If don’t have time to watch Bob’s series, recaps are always helpful.

Here’s when the third season premieres!

The Mandalorian season 3 release date

Season 3 will begin streaming on Disney+ Wednesday, March 1, 2023. Like previous seasons, there will be a total of eight episodes, the majority of which are written by Jon Favreau. However, Favreau does have co-writers in Noah Kloor (episode 3) and Dave Filoni (episode 4 and 7).

As reported by Deadline, Carl Weathers (Greef Karga), Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon), and Katee Sackhoff (Bo-Katen Kryze) are set to return. Christopher Lloyd has joined the cast in an undisclosed role.

The Mandalorian season 3 picks up right after the events of The Book of Boba Fett with Din Djarin on a mission to restore what he’s lost. Watch the teaser trailer below:
