For many TV lovers in the UK, Only Fools and Horses was a staple in their upbringing. The famous sitcom ran from 1981 to 1991 on BBC One, with different holiday specials coming out throughout the years up until the 2000s. The show followed two central characters, Del Boy (David Jason) and Rodney (Nicholas Lyndhurst), middle-class half-siblings who yearned to become rich. Though younger generations consider the show problematic by today’s standards, Only Fools is one of the all-time classics for many.

So to hear the two stars of the sitcom, Sir David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst, aren’t really on speaking terms anymore is really heartbreaking for fans. The 82-year-old A Touch of Frost star recently opened up about his relationship with Lyndhurst, explaining why they are no longer close.

Are David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst still friends?

The Mirror reports Jason and Lyndhurst have grown apart since their last special in 2014 for charity and don’t speak much anymore, with Jason suggesting it’s because of his former co-star. It’s important to note that Lyndhurst’s son Archie passed away in 2020 at the young age of 19 after suffering a rare hemorrhage, so it’s understandable why he might be staying out of the spotlight. Here’s what Jason has to say about their relationship:

"“[Lyndhurst is] much more, how can I say, self-contained, perhaps, than he used to be. So, unfortunately, we don’t see each other as much as I’d like to. But that’s how things work out sometimes.”"

Needless to say, it’s upsetting to hear the two Only Fools stars are no longer close, and fans aren’t the only ones who are disappointed by that fact. Jason says: “I miss [Only Fools] terribly. It wasn’t like going to work. It was going to have some fun with your mates. We loved each other.”

While fans of Only Fools reminisce on the good old days when Jason and Lyndhurst were filming together all the time, check out this fun compilation of their two characters below:
