Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies release date and more

Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies is definitely what we want! The prequel show to the infamous 1978 hit is going to focus on a different set of high schoolers – the Pink Ladies!

Showrunner Annabel Oakes wrote the script, and she serves as an executive producer. Marty Bowen, Adam Fishbach, Alethea Jones, Erik Feig, and Jamie Kim Falvey also take on EP duties. Grace Gilroy serves as a producer.

Of course it wouldn’t be Grease without music and dancing! The show has tapped choreographer Jamal Sims to handle all the steps, and Grammy Award nominee executive music producer Justin Tranter created the bops we’re going to hear!

Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies release date

The new series is set to drop Thursday, April 6, 2023 on Paramount+. There will be a total of 10 episodes. Installments will be released weekly on the streamer.

Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies synopsis

The musical series takes place four years before the film. So this time around we’ll be in 1954, before “rock ‘n’ roll ruled” and “T-Birds were the coolest in the school,” according to Paramount+. Could you believe it?

We’re getting the origin story of the infamous girl gang with their pink jackets, EW shares. Four fed-up social outcasts will band together to have fun on their own terms, changing Rydell High forever. And we know just how important this group becomes at the high school!

Unfortunately since this takes place four years before Frenchy, Jan, Marty, and Rizzo held that title, we’re probably not going to see them in the prequel. The series is introducing audiences to a new group, lead by Jane, according to EW. Check out the cast list below:

Paramount+ shared the teaser trailer, as well as the official trailer! The teaser features the iconic music we know from the film, shows the assistant principal warning the ladies about their reputations, and teens being teens. Check out the video below:
