It wouldn’t be Christmas at the BBC without Call The Midwife. The popular period drama has been an integral part of the station’s festive line-up (and a regular presence in homes across the United Kingdom) for years, and that won’t be changing this year.
Even outside of its annual Christmas Specials, Call The Midwife remains a favorite of UK audiences and has been one for many years, with its recent seasons drawing an average of 7 million viewers. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that the BBC continues to renew it for more seasons. As it currently stands, the show will continue onto its thirteenth series, but with ratings still incredibly strong, don’t be surprised if it goes on for longer.
Speaking of seasons and series, the 2022 Christmas Special kicks off its twelfth series. On that note, when can UK fans tune into it?
What time does the Call the Midwife Christmas Special start tonight?
The Call The Midwife Christmas Special 2022 airs on BBC One on Christmas Day (December 25, 2022), at 7:55 p.m. GMT in the UK. It will air immediately after the Ghosts Christmas Special and run for one hour and 30 minutes, leading into the Christmas Special of long-running iconic soap EastEnders.
As it is every year, the show is part of BBC One’s huge Christmas Day line-up which, along with the aforementioned shows, will also feature the King’s Speech and special episodes of Strictly Come Dancing and The Wheel.
According to the official BBC website, the special episode of Call The Midwife will see the Poplar community prepare for a busy Christmas and stage a festive talent show.
Just like we’ve seen with previous seasons, this episode will act as a beginner for Call The Midwife series 12, which officially starts on BBC One on January 1, 2023.
