The Golden Globe Awards are set to return tonight on NBC with their 80th year. You can watch the show on NBC or Peacock starting at 8 p.m. ET. That said, there is a loaded slate of movies, and tv shows that I love up for nominations. Below, I share my five wishes for tonight’s ceremony.

As most of you have followed me in my two years with Hidden Remote, I try to put my eyes on various movies or TV shows yearly. In 2022, we had some great movies like Bones and All, Women Talking and Elvis and some great TV shows like The Bear, Acapulco, and Fleishman Is in Trouble.

However, my heart gets broken yearly because some of the things I love are never awarded the way they should be. However, I am throwing some real wishes at the dart board tonight, hoping to walk away with Globe trophies.

Golden Globe nominees who should win in 2023

Elvis movie - best movies of 2022

Austin Butler, Elvis – Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama

No performance captivated me more than Austin Butler in the role of Elvis. Not only did Butler sing a lot of the early Elvis songs, but he shook, danced, and perfected the mannerisms of the King himself. It was a transformative performance that deserves every award, including the upcoming Oscar.

Decision To Leave – Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language

Not only is Decision to Leave the best movie in this category, but it’s also one of the best movies of 2022. Park Chan-wook’s beautiful and uncharacteristic love story is so profound and heartfelt that I am not sure I’ve seen a better love story on the big screen. If you haven’t seen this movie, it’s available on MUBI.

Justin Hurwitz, Babylon – Best Original Score – Motion Picture

Hurwitz is now four for four with the carefully crafted and unique scores that he has brought to Damien Chazelle’s movies. In Babylon, his most ambitious project to date is this jazz-like party atmosphere that elevates this film to another height for three hours. From the first chord to the last, Hurwitz always leaves us wanting more.

Jeremy Allen White, The Bear – Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy

The chances of Jeremy Allen White winning might be small, and I understand he’s against the likes of Donald Glover, Bill Hader and the duo of Steve Martin and Martin Short. However, White’s performance in The Bear was pure genius and something I never saw coming in a million years. We all fell in love with White as Lip Gallagher in Showtime’s Shameless, but what he brought to the role of Carmy Berzatto far exceeded anything he has done. Give this man this trophy because he deserves it.

Richard Jenkins, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story – Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for TV

I remember partaking in the Dahmer press conference and hearing Jenkins say, “If Jeffrey Dahmer is your son, do you stop loving him? How do you deal with the fact Jeffrey Dahmer is your son?” This category is filled with outstanding performances (Hauser is my other pick), but the life that Jenkins brought to this role is mesmerizing.
