Updated: June 13, 2023 – It’s been rough for fans of The CW’s shows since the mass cancellation of series in 2022 that saw the network ending a record total of 13 series in one calendar year. Though we’re now in 2023 that doesn’t mean the cancellation spree is done. It’s been reported that fewer than 5 U.S. scripted originals on the network are likely to make it out of the 2022-2023 television season with a renewal.

What scripted programming is airing or set to air on CW in the coming months that’s not already scheduled to be ending? All American, All American: Homecoming, Gotham Knights, Kung Fu, Superman & Lois, The Winchesters, Walker, and Walker Independence.

That means two franchises are in jeopardy as is the future of DC TV on The CW. We’ll be keeping track of the network’s renewal/cancellation decisions as the television season draws to a close. Here’s what we know so far!

The CW shows renewed in 2023

All American has secured the first renewal of 2023 for CW. The veteran series will make its season 6 premiere in the 2023-2024 television season. The announcement of the show’s renewal didn’t state that the sixth season will be the show’s finale one, so we could be in for more of Spencer James’ and co. story beyond said television year.

Spin-off series All American: Homecoming has been renewed for a 13 episode season, but it’ll have a reduced number of series regulars. The network’s fall schedule has gone through some changes as more series are acquired. The flagship has a planned fall premiere, if the writers strike doesn’t impede this debut, but it’s possible Homecoming will be saved for 2024 like Walker which also received a 13 episode season and will premiere its fourth installment in the midseason.

Superman & Lois has received a 10 episode pick-up that’ll come with budget cuts and a reduced series regular cast. Rounding out the scripted renewals is the newly acquired Sullivan’s Crossing which will have a season 2 on the network.

Fans of CW’s unscripted programming can anticipate new episodes of Penn & Teller: Fool Us and World’s Funniest Animals this fall. Whose Line Is It Anyway? will debut new episodes in 2024, but its fate beyond that is uncertain.

The CW shows canceled in 2023

None of the network’s freshman scripted series made the cut this time. Walker Independence, The Winchesters, and Gotham Knights have been canceled. The first two series were “aggressively” shopped, but failed to find a new home. The latter series wasn’t reported to have been shopped.

Long running martial arts family drama Kung Fu was also a casualty of this year’s cancellations as was short-lived unscripted program Would I Lie to You and Two Sentence Horror Stories

The CW shows on the bubble

The only series that hasn’t been renewed or canceled is Criss Angel’s Magic with the Stars. The show debuted in 2022.
