What is drama series Those About to Die on Peacock about?

Peacock has a new gladiator series in the works, and the streaming service has been able to tap Academy Award-winning actor Anthony Hopkins to take the lead! As of this writing on Jan. 19, 2023, Hopkins is the first actor to be cast in Those About to Die.

The epic period drama is created by Roland Emmerich and written by Robert Rodat, according to Deadline. Both will also take on executive producing duties alongside Gianni Nunnari, Harald Klose, Herbert G. Kloiber, Martin Moszkowicz, Oliver Berben, Jonas Bauer, Charles Holland, and Lourdes Diaz.

The news outlet reports filming is set to begin in Rome in March 2023. So it will still be a while until we the show debuts on our screens. Though we have an idea of what it’s about. So what can we expect to see in the new Peacock series? We’ve got the answer for you below!

What is Those About to Die on Peacock about?

Those About to Die takes place in Ancient Rome where Emperor Vespasian (Hopkins), is in charge, per Deadline. Viewers will be taken into the “spectacular, complex, and corrupt world” of gladiatorial sports and meet a variety of people who make up Roman society. This is a place where sports, politics, and business “intersect and collide.”

Hopkins’ character, who is the head of the Flavian bloodline, rose to power when he took the throne following a bloody, decade-long civil war, Deadline shares. As he grows older and his popularity declines, he has to face those trying to take over power and replace his heirs.
