In the 2022 fall finale of All American: Homecoming, Simone received the career threatening news that she’d failed her drug test. Her results were flagged for use of a banned substance and her coach had no choice but to bench her pending an investigation.
It was the shocking interlude to Simone’s story arc this season that’s been heavily focused on her issues with building camaraderie on her tennis team. She’s yet to find a happy medium with her fellow players and is often at odds with them. Lacking allies and beginning to develop a chip on her shoulder from the tension and harassment, Simone even turned to dishing out just as good as she was getting.
Of course, she didn’t knowingly put her tennis dreams in jeopardy, so Simone immediately jumped to the conclusion that someone had been sabotaging her. Between Tootie, Thea, and nameless players on her team, Simone’s antagonist list is longer than she’d like. But was she actually sabotaged or was there another explanation for her results?
Here’s what we know.
How did Simone fail her drug test on All American: Homecoming?
While Simone did initially think she’d been dosed by someone else, it turns out she’d accidentally dosed herself when using Nate’s THC lotion. However, instead of calling off the tribunal she’d put together to defend herself, Simone carries on with it to discuss the way Black people are treated when it comes to drug offenses and the repercussions of that treatment along with how justice needs to bring actual change not the performance of change.
